RASCAL'S RESCUE

RASCAL B. GOOBERCAT

About our namesake
Rascal was adopted in December 2006 at about 8 weeks old. His foster stated that he had been found in a junk yard and suspected that's the reason he had a bad break in his tail that healed as a permanent kink about 2/3 of the way down its length.

As he grew, he maintained a level of spiciness that scared some and endeared him to others. While living in an apartment, Rascal was ready to take on the maintenance guy that came in to fix something if he took one step closer to his mom and was not shy about letting him know it either. When he was with his people though, he would purr contentedly and often be found smiling in his sleep.

Rascal never got along with vets or antibiotics and was shocked speechless the day that he met an office manager at a veterinary hospital that dared to sass him back.

During his 12 years, he moved across state lines and saw a number of felines added to the family. He of course, assumed the role of alpha and made sure that they learned the rules. Despite his size, he would never pass up the opportunity to gently wrestle with a new kitten.

He succumbed to cancer shortly before his 13th birthday.

I was raised with cats and from a young age learned that if there was a cat in need, you don't turn a blind eye. Things were much different in suburbia than they are in the country.

As a young adult, there was a brief period where my living arrangements made it impossible for me to have a pet. As soon as those arrangements changed however, and it was possible for me to get a cat, I did so.

When I moved to live nearer to the man that would become my husband, I crossed state lines with two cats. I didn't anticipate that he was as much an animal lover as myself and soon, I had found myself adopting a third.

Over the years, we've had a number of cats show up on our doorstep in various states of need. There was never really a question as to whether or not we'd do what we could to help them, it was just kind of understood.

Now living in the country, things have become more challenging but the work continues. We do everything we can to help, heal, and love on those that God brings across our path believing that each one deserves to be safe, warm and loved.
